I Had a Dream


I had a dream of a faraway land
and it was ruled
by a wise hand
named fantasy.

There were galloping horses
upon them, knights of armour
and there were forces
controlled by dark arts.

There was a king who alone sat
upon the grand and mighty throne
and there on a cushion was a cat
giving out silent snores.

There was a castle which alone stood
upon a green and tall hill
and no one could
penetrate its walls.

There was the sea
glimmering in the sun
and there was no one but she
standing alone by the pier.

There were palm trees
and monkeys throwing coconuts
there were hives of bees
busy making honey.

I wake up to the start
of a new day and I think,
“I will play a part
in the play of life.”
